What exactly do Chiropractors treat?

A Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) treats patients of any age, typically who are experiencing neck, pain, back pain or headaches. Neck pain, back pain and headaches can all be treated with adjustments, or manipulations – which is largely what Chiropractors are known for. Our D.C.’s also treat musculoskeletal disorders, or anything involving the muscles, ligaments or joints. Our team is able to treat patients through chiropractic adjustments, rehab therapy, hands on therapy and a variety of injections administered by our Nurse Practitioner.

How should I go about choosing a D.C.?

There are many ways to ensure you select the correct Chiropractor. Online platforms such as ZocDoc are a great way to find a credible physician. We also recommend doing your research with a quick Google search. Many patients leave reviews of the clinic or physician which can be extremely helpful. Lastly, you can check with your friends, family or PCP and ask if they have anyone they might refer you to.

Is Chiropractic treatment safe?

Chiropractic is known for its drug-free, non-invasive treatment solutions, and is largely viewed as one of the safest treatment options for musculoskeletal complaints. The majority of patients experience immediate relief following their appointment. Some patients do experience mild soreness or aching, similar to the soreness you might feel after exercising.

Do I need a referral by my doctor to see a Chiropractor?

A referral is not usually needed when seeking chiropractic care. Most health insurance does cover chiropractic treatment, but if you have any doubts or questions, we recommend contacting your insurance provider. Our office is also more than happy to verify your insurance before your first visit.

Do insurance plans cover chiropractic?

Yes. This will vary of course depending on your provider, but most insurance plans cover some form of chiropractic care.

What kind of schooling have Chiropractors completed?

In order to become a Doctor of Chiropractic, a candidate must apply to an accredited chiropractic college, typically after having completed 4 years of undergraduate study in biology, chemistry, psychology and related labs. Once accepted, candidates continue their studies for anywhere from 4-5 years and must obtain a minimum of 4,200 hours of classroom, laboratory and clinical experience!

Is it true that if I see a Chiropractor once, I must continue seeking treatment?

Because chiropractic is a hands-on treatment method, depending on the patients’ personal wellness plan prescribed by one of our Chiropractors, our team will likely recommend multiple visits. However, this really depends on the specific patient, what their symptoms are, and what they feel they are able to financially commit to (if finances are a consideration). Our Doctors typically recommend a wellness plan somewhere between 4-6 weeks of treatment. After that window, they’ll reevaluate based on progress and mutual conversations with the patient. It’s possible that you/the Doctor will decide you no longer need as intense of a treatment schedule and you may decide to only come in once every few weeks or once a month. Other patients may only schedule when they feel specifc symptoms again (if they do).

What is the popping sound I hear during the adjustment?

The noises you hear during your adjustment are similar to what you might hear if you crack your knuckles. It’s caused by the change in pressure within the joint, releasing gas “bubbles”.
